CONCACAF Gold Cup: Canada vs. Honduras Odds, Preview, and Picks (Jun 17)
The CONCACAF Gold Cup action will be well underway by the time that Canada open their campaign on Tuesday evening in Vancouver against Honduras. Jesse Marsch’s team could be one of the outstanding picks to win the competition this summer after progressing well over the last 18 months. But, will they get off to a winning start at BC Place?

Match Preview
Jesse Marsch has overseen a productive period for Canada since taking over, but it’s likely that his job will be based on an assessment following next year’s World Cup. Canada appear to be in a strong position ahead of their home tournament, eye-catchingly finishing strongly at last year’s Copa America.
This summer block of internationals won’t be a straightforward task for Canada, as they will be without their injured superstar Alphonso Davies. But, they have shown consistently that they still have quality across the field even in his absence.

However, Canada will need to play better than they did recently against the Ivory Coast, as they failed to a single shot on target in the 0-0 draw. Canada’s record in the Gold Cup has also been underwhelming since winning the tournament in 2000. They were eliminated in the quarterfinal stage in 2023.
Honduras won’t be an easy opponent on matchday one, as they have been steadily progressive under Reinaldo Rueda. The nation comes into the Gold Cup after winning each of their last four internationals, and keeping clean sheets in each of their previous three.
But, it is worth considering that they have suffered group stage exits in three of the last five editions of the Gold Cup since their run to the semi-finals in 2013.
Head-to-Head Record
Canada recorded a 4-1 victory in the latest meeting between the nations in March 2023. That marked their second win in three against Honduras, while Canada have also suffered just one loss in their last five against their opponents.
Canada vs. Honduras Picks
I have high hopes that Canada can go deep in the Gold Cup this summer, as they have shown excellent early progress under Marsch. This matchday one assignment isn’t an easy task, but their quality could get them over the line in Vancouver.
