Event Preview
There will be exciting action on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule this weekend, as for the first time since 1958, there will be a points-scoring race held outside of the United States. NASCAR has reached new levels of popularity in Mexico, and this weekend’s Viva Mexico 250 will be hosted at the same track that has hosted Formula 1 action for much of the last decade.
This weekend’s race will cover just under 250 miles, with the field completing a total of 100 laps. However, the track has previously hosted races on the NASCAR Xfinity Series, meaning that drivers with previous experience of the track could be interesting contenders in Mexico City.

This weekend’s race also comes at a pivotal stage of the season, as it is the penultimate event before the In-Season Challenge. William Byron continues to set a red-hot pace at the top of the Drivers’ Championship, but he could only finish 28th at the recent FireKeepers Casino 400.
Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin closed the gap on the current leader, with the latter landing a third victory of the season. Hamlin has also achieved podium finishes in each of the last two races.
Christopher Bell will have questions to answer this weekend after finishing outside of the top ten for the first time in four races. Chase Elliott and Tyler Reddick have also been driving consistently throughout this season without getting a regular season race win that their performances have deserved.
Viva Mexico 250 Picks
Denny Hamlin could be an interesting selection to record a second straight race win this weekend. Hamlin has previous experience at the home circuit for the Viva Mexico 250 after winning on the Xfinity Series at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in 2006.
