Alexa Grasso is defending her UFC Women’s Flyweight title against former champ Valentina Shevchenko.

Six months and seven days after staging one of the biggest upsets in the history of women’s MMA, Alexa Grasso is fighting Valentina Shevchenko again. This time, she’s the one who’s got the UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship belt in her possession. Will she be able to defend it in the headliner fight of Noche UFC (a.k.a. UFC Fight Night: Grasso vs. Shevchenko) on the Mexican Independence Day?

Before the first Grasso vs. Shevchenko fight, the Mexican fighter was a +550 underdog, but she managed to shock the world with a submission win in round 4. Before that, it was Shevchenko who was the dominant force. “Bullet” landed almost 30 significant strikes more than Grasso, as well as made four takedowns while suffering none.

It was Valentina’s first loss by submission in her career, but you can be certain she’s worked hard to make sure it doesn’t happen again. She’s generally considered one of the best female fighters in the world, who’s got all sorts of weapons in her arsenal. Actually, Shevchenko is a real Swiss knife of a fighter with a background in boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, taekwondo, and judo.

Grasso too is a jack of all trades when it comes to fighting, but her skills just don’t seem to be at the same level as Valentina’s.

The loss to Grasso six months ago was probably nothing but a glitch and Shevchenko will set the record straight in the Noche UFC main event. She’s coming to Vegas to get her title back, which is something we think she’ll do with a finish.
